The BrontësHeadingFor the present I will be concentrating on providing E-text versions of the poems but it is my intention to develop this corner of the site further over the coming months.Anne BrontëTo an extent she stands in the shadow of her two more famous sisters but she was in some ways the more clear sighted of the three and, in 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall' created a work that dealt directly with the social and moral issues of her day (and her own personal experience through her brother Branwell). Charlotte BrontëIt is difficult to disentangle the woman from the myth (begun, soon after her death, by Mrs Gaskells biography) but Jane Eyre remains a perrennial classic including recent screen versions. Emily BrontëThese six poems, together with Wuthering Heights, in my view represent her crowning achievement. From the visionary mysticism of 'He comes with western winds, with evening's airs' to the catch in the voice in the opening of 'Cold in the earth, and the deep snow piled above thee!' they stand head and shoulders above her other poems.
